With the summer schedule winding down as far as team camps and other activities are concerned, the Ardmore Lady Tigers basketball team decided to give themselves a change of scenery this past week.
Coach Debra Manley and her squad traveled down the interstate to Arlington, Texas where the Lady Tigers took part in a team camp at the University of Texas at Arlington.
“The camp itself was very competitive in nature,” Manley said. “It was great for our girls to go against not just teams from Texas, but AAU teams that were there as well. We saw a lot of different defenses that made us have to adjust and monitor things on the fly.”
“We definitely grew closer as a team and as a group this week,” Manley added. “The girls did a great job and it was definitely a great experience for us. It’s always great when we can go to a college camp like this and the kids get to experience the college atmosphere and get exposure to the college coaches as well.”
This summer has seen the Lady Tigers travel to the Sulphur team camp where they competed against several teams from across Oklahoma, as well as the Duncan Team Camp.
This coming week, the Lady Tigers will conclude their summer schedule as they finish up with a two-day team camp in Ada on the 27th and 28th.
“There’s definitely been some growing pains this summer,” Manley said. “But the girls have responded and grown up while maturing at the same time as teammates. We lost three talented players to graduation, and we’ve had two talented varsity players missing this summer due to injuries. It’s forced our younger girls to learn how to grow up and mature really fast, but we are getting there.”
“We’re looking forward to ending the summer strong,” Manley said. “The Ada team camp is our last chance to improve this summer so we’re planning on taking full advantage of it.”
